- Late December Round-Up
Chris Jackson placed 10th out of 228 at the WHINBERRY NAZE fell-race.
Seven harriers entered the FESTIVE DISORIENTATION event held on the moors above Tintwistle from the Bulls Head. Here is a report from Zoe:-
‘The Festive Disorientation event organised by local legend Dez took place on Sunday 28th December on a crisp frosty morning, with plenty of snow remaining on the hills. The pavements and streets proved more dangerous as melted slush and ice had frozen hard overnight, so seven harriers eagerly anticipated getting off-road to navigate between the checkpoints. Due to a mass start and a small field, navigation wasn’t the main concern so we all raced in line up via the quarry to Lads Leap and then back over the moors via a checkpoint which foxed even Pennine’s Nic Barber and Stevie K. Runners fanned out seeking the kite in the snow. Using his legendary skills, John S and sharp-eyed Zoe located it and the race was back on. The harriers had a good day, as Lins came 2nd lady, Zoe 3rd, John first in his category and the ladies team of Lins, Zoe, Rachel and Sharn first ladies team. Dez had placed a shorter route than intended, for safety, and we were all grateful for that as we knew how deep the drifts were on the hills. Thanks to Andy O for volunteering as helper’. Sarah Leah was also first back on the shorter 8K course.
Andy B and Neil M travelled to Clitheroe to race at the poular and very competitive RIBBLE VALLEY 10K. Conditions were very cold and sunny with a lot of ice in the surrounding area but the race route still produced some very fast times with winner clocking 30.01. Neil finished in 38.18 a PB for 10K and Andy clocked 46.03, his best time in this race.
Chris was 24th and Caity 36th (3rd Lady) at the WANSFELL race
Nick Ham is not one to take it easy over the festive season. He travelled up to Cumbria to complete the 38 mile TOUR DE HELVELLYN.
Chris, Caity, Neil and Nev travelled up to Haworth to race against the Brownlees and a myriad of fancy dress characters in the iconic AULD LANG SYNE fell race. Caity was 2nd Lady and was only a few seconds behind Chris at the finish.

Happy New Year to all the Harriers and their families and friends. Surely 2015 can’t be as good as 2014…..or can it?
