Fell Challenges and Races

It’s time to get out in the hills! Here’s a few local challenges and historic race routes…

  • Glossop 3 Trigs
This has been used for years as a time trial, a social or a training route.  A good solid 12 or so miles visiting our three most local trig points.
  • Glossop Fell Race
Held between 1981 and 1989 this was a local classic covering around 19 miles with a climb of 4,600ft.
  • New Glossop Fell Race
Only held once in 1994 this covers around 22 miles taking in Higher Shelf Stones and Alport, then crosses the snake followed by a tour along the northern edge of Kinder.
  • Kinder Bastard
Road and trail runners beware – this wont be fun (hence the name). Devised during 2020 covid-world by Ian Crutchley, this takes a visit to Kinder for a run you’ll never forget.
  • Glossopdale “Women Only” Fell Race
Only held for two years in the 90s, this short, sharp route takes a tour up to Harry Hut and back.
  • Saddleworth 10 Trigs
Glossopdale’s Chris Webb created this gem, by stitching together the Saddleworth and Northern 5 Trig routes. Chris’ inaugural run time of 6:17:54 will take some beating!
  • David Bray Memorial Race
Held between 2005 and 2009, this is a lovely out and back to Wild Bank Trig, with a loop around Lees Hill in the middle.
  • Wild Bank Half Dozen
Another 2020 lockdown creation, this time by Sikobe Litaba. This 18 mile challenge will see you become very (very) familiar with Wild Bank!
