Ian Hodgson Relays Weekend

The club once more entered a team in the IAN HODGSON MOUNTAIN RELAY. Great running by Kirsty Johnson, Jill Wood, Al Cowell, Chris Jackson, Caity Rice, Zoe Barton, Rory Hogg and captain and organiser Tim Budd took our small club to a fantastic 3rd position in the Mixed race. Pennine came first in this category, with Borrowdale 2nd just 54 seconds in front of our plucky team who finished in 4.32.24, placing 30 out of the 70 teams competing. Well done to all those running and to all the much appreciated spectators!

‘It was a special day for GDH in more ways than one: the first time we’d fielded a mixed team at this event, and two team members, Jill and Alasdair, celebrated their birthdays whilst taking part. The course is run from Patterdale over four legs covering the surrounding fells and each leg is run by a pair. Jill and Kirsty started strongly on leg 1 handing over to Chris and Alasdair. At Kirkstone Pass they arrived within the top thirty pairs to tag over to Zoe and Caity who maintained that placing to leg four, where Tim and Rory worked hard to eventually finish third mixed team. We were beaten by a very strong Pennine mixed team and Borrowdale, who know the area very well indeed. Everyone enjoyed the occasion and those running for the first time were very grateful to be given the opportunity to compete at this classic fixture.’

TIM’S BLOG

Ben Tetler maintained his excellent form with a great 5th placing at the SADDLEWORTH EDGES FELL RACE. Ben finished in a fast 1.07.12: John Stephenson was 78th in 1.30.53 and Cheryl Stitt 82nd in 1.32.36.

Parkrun Corner

Several harriers ran at the 2nd Glossop Parkrun. Caity Rice was 1st overall setting a new ladies record of 19.29. There were PBs also for Charlie Eaton, Lawrence Fennelly  and Claire Oates. Harriers were also running at Oldham and Newcastle as well as Stamford Park where David Munday had a course PB.
