- Mid August report
The Ultra Tour of the Peak District – We had a few runners representing at this long’un in 2016. Susan Clapham ran in the 30 mile ½ tour, – coming in 44th overall in 6:10 (not 66th as I previously mentioned… apologies for the mistake).
Jason Hart & Andy Connell ran well in the full 60 mile tour which included almost 3,000 metres of ascent.
Jason Hart- 27th in 15:26
Andy Connell- 28th in 15:53
Apparently Jason gave Anthony Walkers vest an outing, though whether the vest needs an honourable mention or not is a moot point. We are told that reports of mothballs and dust are purely anecdotal and completely unsubstantiated. In a post race interview Jason said that he actually came in in 14:40, but unfortunately didn’t dib at a couple of checkpoints. The sentient vest may or may not be to blame for this dibbing oversight. Jason’s pleas fell on deaf ears at Dig Deep Towers and he was penalised for missing the controls. I’m not entirely sure if we should award him the 14:40, and Anthony’s vest the 15:26 or vice versa and shall leave it up to the viewer to decide. It wouldn’t have changed anything anyway…
Birchwood 10k – A Glossopdale counter with surprisingly few Blue and Orange vests taking part. Kirsty Johnson came in as 5th lady overall in 39:36, David Chrystie-Lowe took 30 points in the mens champs with a fine 44:00 run, John Stephenson came in for 29 points at 49:37.
Pendle 3 Peaks (English Fell Champs) Chris Jackson – 55th in 1:29:49. He’s still chasing that top 50 finish, missing it by just a minute on this occasion.
Parkrun – In Glossop we had a few Glossop parkrun PB’s – Joe Travis and Lynne Taylor leading the charge, Jeroen also paced potential new members Charlotte and Liz to PB’s, plus lots of other GDH runners at our local parkrun. Special mention to our junior runners Wyatt Barlow who has been volunteering very regularly – this week sweeping the course after the run; also Steven Rea’s son on his debut parkrun pipping his dad to the finish line with a strong finish. Rachel Walton did the tourist thing and PB’ed at a panflat Parkrun at Tonbridge. (Her description, not mine!). Andy Fox was at Marple, Clive Smith at Stamford.
It also looked like there were some decent days out on the hill on Saturday and Sunday dodging (rain) showers and taking in the sights of Bleaklow and Kinder.
