  5. The “how much mud?!”...

So in the grand scheme of things perhaps the best thing to concentrate on this week is the

prolific running of the Harriers. As if there was anything else more news-worthy anyway! (Except the epic proportions of rain that fell on the Peak over Friday and Saturday…)

Saturday saw the continuation of the Crosscountry season with a race in the aptly named Boggart Hole, the competitors ran through swathes of mud though the temperature was surprisingly mild. Perhaps spikes weren’t the best footwear, but then, running in waders isn’t a great look either. Kirsty had a superb run again this week, the duck eggs must be giving her strength!

Senior Women 20-34 – Kirsty Johnson 5th in 33:43 (and 8th overall of 245!)

Senior Blokes 20-39 – Chris Jackson 47th in 40:25 (overall 81st)
Senior Blokes 45-49 – Steve Crossman 8th 40:00 (overall 73rd)
Senior Blokes 55-59 – David Chrystie-Lowe 14th in 47:07 (overall 244th)
John Stephenson 22nd in 55:49 (overall 370th) 406 ran in total
There was no team result for mens or womens as we need 4 girls or 5 guys to get a team ranking.

The “amazingly handsome” Ian, Andy and Rich proving that a bit of rain improves your 10k time.

Arley Hall 10k was also on the menu on Saturday and three amazingly good looking gentlemen represented the Harriers in the rain and chill. Rich White was running hard trying to get his first sub 40 10k, he was being pursued in good style by Ian Oates and Andy Burnett. Rich did good and came in with a fantastic PB of 39:39 – and is now open to new ideas as he’s hit that milestone (sub 39 Rich?!). As mentioned, Mr Oates was pushing hard and blasted in with another PB, 42:39, best time by more than a minute, and Andy B continued his running come back with a 44:30 proving that the older you get the faster you go.

Claire Campbell was out and about on the Mainland (away from her Isle of Wight fortress) doing a Brutal 10k in Aldershot. It seemed pretty brutal considering part of the course included a 300m stretch of thigh deep mud, which may or may not have had a bearing on the finish times – Claire was about halfway down the finishing list in 1:29:25, 11th out of 52 Female Vets.

Another Southern based Harrier was on race list this weekend, with Martin Schmidt doing the CTS Gower half marathon. The scenery was apparently amazing, though being a tad ill and not being able to eat for the last 3 days prior to the race put a bit of a kybosh on his time, coming in at 2:35. But a fantastic time was had on the way!

Anthony Johnson was also enjoying the mud this weekend (its turning into a bit of a theme really) in another CRUK Brutal 10k in Cheshire. I don’t have a placing for him, but Strava seems to reckon he took about 47 minutes. A fine effort considering the muddy boggy-ness of the course.

Across the pond, International Man of Mystery and failed election subverter Phil Pearce ran the Cambridge Half-marathon this weekend, finishing with a guntime of 1:24:20. Superb running over in the USA, and certainly the furthest flung race result this week. Well done Phil!

The Roaches Fellrace also happened this weekend, but I have no idea if anyone went over that way… Mark O quite often does. I’m fairly certain no-one headed up for the Harriers vs Cyclists either. However, if I’ve missed anyone, let me know and I’ll update.

It looks like John Stephenson is leading out this Thursdays social run, (as volunteered for on the doodle poll) I’m sure he’ll be putting out some info as to what it’ll be like on Facebook in the coming days. I note there is no-one down for the week after, so if you fancy doing your bit and leading out a social paced run of about 10k or 1 and a bit hours stick yer name down.
