The October Full Moon Report

Well. It is full moon today, and if we get a clear night its going to be blimmin’ lovely. I reckon you could run over Bleaklow without a torch.

Anyhow – this weekend was the FRA relays up in Luss, by Loch Lomond. Glossopdale sent up 2 teams, the Blokes team came in 43rd overall. Julien Minshull provided a good before Jamie Helmer and Chris Jackson took over on the long leg 2, with Tim Culshaw dragging Matt Huxford around the Nav leg, enabling John Hewitt to come on home on the final leg.

The Mixed team appeared to have an equally lovely time, with Alice Willson storming out on the first leg, passing on the baton to Charlie Eaton and Lizzy Leason on leg 2. Talented navigators, Lindsay Palmer and Jude Stansfield made their way through the map leg and Kasia Osipowicz brought the team home to 91st.

Apparently the weather was pretty grim, the Nav leg was made somewhat fun by the ridiculous amount of clag and the terrain was pretty rough giving a fair amount of challenge to the runners. Well done to the 2 teams for showing such dedication. Great to have teams in this national event.

Saturday also saw the first of the Cross Country meets where it was unseasonably warm- somewhat different conditions from those seen in Luss – so much so that Steve Crossman got sunburnt and Kirsty complained of the heat! The results looked a bit like this:

The Road shoes came out with a vengeance (and maybe the waterproofs should have as well) in the Manchester Half on Sunday. Ian Oates had a stonker of a run knocking 5 mins off his PB finishing in 1:35. Wendy Trelease was not far behind, also grabbing herself a PB in 1:41. Steven Rea came in at 1:56, with Paul Drury continuing his seemingly bi-weekly half marathon stints just behind in 2:03.

Andy Burnett and Rich White were off chasing 10k PB’s again over at Farndom 10k. They both had pretty decent runs, Andy was 134th in 47:35 and Rich was 28th in 40:09.

Huge news on the long ranging front with serial ultra-ist Nick Ham completing his 10th Round Rotherham in a row. An amazing effort, not simply for completing his 10th edition of thie 50 miler, but for keeping on going back to Rotherham.

Park Run Corner:

Guy Riddell was first Glossopdaler in the Glossop Parkrun this week, but it was Rachel Walton that took advantage of the conditions to bring home a PB – Dan Ellingworth should also be mentioned for coming achingly close to a PB as well. Beryl Buckley led the field in terms of age grading with 74.96%. Elsewhere, in out of the ordinary Park Run visitations (I’m sure I’m not making this up), Lawrence Fennelly was over at Chadderton Hall. I have no idea where that is.

Couple of Newflash type things for those that don’t actually read the front page of the website…

A new doodle poll has been set up for Thursday night club runs – there is always a Fell group, but this poll is for people who are willing to lead out a shorter, easier run, 1- 1.5hours max on road or trail. We had some great runs in the summer, lets try and keep it going through the dark months. Especially if you’re staring down the maw of a Spring Marathon. (Thanks to Kasia and Guy for sticking their names down already!).

Pub runs are going to be starting up again. First Thursday of each month. November 3rd is the first one – looking at going from the Beehive.

The Christmas Party Date has been announced. (Yayz!). Its going to be on December 18th, and hopefully will be in the Scout hut again. Clear your diary. There will be a morning run if you want to go on that, followed by a generally convivial food and drink fest in the afternoon/evening, and will be concluded with the annual “trying to get John Hewitt to Glossop station in time for a train” competition.
