One of the big events of the fell running year, HBR involves four legs of ‘wet, slippery, miserable fun’ around Patterdale. With two runners on each leg GDH compiled a motley crew of Mark D, Kasia O, Mark H, Charlie E, Ben N, Chris W, Andy O and Jamie H, to be dispatched north. They got round in about 3:49, all in one piece on an interesting weather day. Well done to all and a massive shout out to Andy, Mark D and Kasia for stepping up last minute to fill in for injury. Sorry I let the club down this year but I’ll be back stronger next year and personal thanks to Kasia for replacing me and to Skipper Tim Budd for not hanging me from a lamp post.

Tatton Park 10km

Tony Hillier went for a run in the park. No further details yet but safe to assume that he was quick, scary quick. Rumours that he was then removed from the park by the Rangers for press up taunting the deer are yet to be disproved.

Parkrun Corner

A soggy morning down Manor Park way saw a buggy-less Matt Kieras enjoying plain sailing to come back as first finisher whilst Rosa Chrystie-Lowe keelhauled her old man as she returned first lady. Also out for a swim was a young James McGraw who skulled his way to an impressive PB and keeping up the family tradition of top running.

Time in the high altitude camp of Newcastle appears to have done the trick for Joe Travis and Emma Peters with both putting their oxygen rich blood to use in bringing back PBs from Marple. Prepping for a stint on the XCountry circuit with a PB at Stamford Park was Susan Moore, whilst David Munday was too busy celebrating his 50^th run to bother with times.

Adventure Weekend – Part II

Turns out that some people forgot that adventure weekend was last week, and that it was meant to include some form of running, however there will always be those that buck the trend. So it is that we welcome Mrs Kirsty Sharp to the club fresh from her wedding on Friday, chapeau to you and Dave from all in the club.

However as we welcome one, we must say bon voyage to two others as Tim and Alice say ‘salama’ to Rwanda. Hope you both have a great time doing good things and making a positive difference to the world, and we look forward to your return with tales of adventure.

11km Challenge – The Results

Having noticed a shortfall in the number of trail races this year a shout went up for a filler, unfortunately the only person to hear it was as an idiot fell runner who produced ‘runable’ circuit that did its best to avoid any flat road or trail for the road and trail champs. That’ll learn you.

Coming top in the Mens and winning the prize for sneakiest git with a very late run was Chris Webb in 40:19, just pipping Jamie Helmer (who we’ll assume got lost at some point) and Action Jackson who lost time faffing over what shoes to wear.

The ladies however produced a virtual photo finish with Kirsty Sharp (45:19)using that road race dip on the line experience to sneak ahead Caitlin Rice, Coach Joss needs to have words. And third sport was also a close finish on the same run between Heather Jansevska and Rebecca Smith.

2018 Championships

Things may be hotting up in the Fell Champs with at least eight men and women in shouting distance of the podium with two races left and the Road/Trail Champs is going down to the wire as well, but lets cast an eye towards next year.

Starting with the Road and Trail Championships next year sees a focus on some classic distances with a club day race chasing a train and an aspiration ultra in November for those that want a new challenge. Massive thanks to those of you that chucked ideas at this, every race on the calendar has been suggested by a GDH runner as a great day out so I hope that continues.

Fell wise we’ve tried to keep it local again, but have added a couple of aspiration events that have a great reputation, one of which is an end of year Ultra through the Lakes. There’ll be long races, nav events, cakes and stupidity and I hope to share it with you again.

SSS – Call for help

That’s right folks the Shittern Santa Saunter is returning on the 10^th of December and as anyone how came last year will testify, I need help. So if you know you that you wont be running, you like people and want to help then let me know. Looking for registration, timekeeping, food and results folk.  Previous helpers may apply again as you were awesome last year!

Padawans

In order to celebrate the stellar work that the GDH Padawans have put in recently it has been decided to have a Junior Championship next year, as we have a mix of ages it will focus more on encouraging running in a range of events as opposed to direct competition. It is hoped we can conjure up some prizes for any of the GDHP that complete the race list. Stay tuned for more details soon.

Meanwhile the GDHP have obviously heard of the forthcoming champs and have warming up in anticipation, Josie Swan taking first lady at Marple Parkrun this morning and Adam Crompton beasting his dad over the fells in another gruelling training session. Fox and Thomas P, meanwhile stuck to marshal duty at Parkrun, obviously resting before some xtraining. Top work youth wing.
