Introduction

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the 2020 club championships were cancelled, along with pretty much everything else! The club did a great job in keeping the membership engaged during this difficult time, putting on a number of challenges which could be done individually. In 2021, with much uncertainty remaining, we decided we needed to do something to get the Champs back, giving members something to focus on. So we developed a fully virtual championships, consisting of a series of monthly time trials and challenges, which would be unaffected by any further lockdowns to come.

The 2021 Champs were so inclusive and successful, with unprecedented levels of participation, we have continued this format ever since. We’ve adapted and improved it along the way, but here we are for the 6th year! Essentially, the Champs are based upon monthly time trails, many of which do coincide with real life races, so here you have the option to do the race itself, or do it as a time trial. There is a little something for everyone in the events on offer and we would love to repeat the record level of participation we saw during the last 5 years.

After feedback from the membership, we have again decided to slightly adapt the Overall Championships, and this is detailed on below link.  Essentially, the changes affect the criteria for champs qualification, and how the overall club M/F champions and age grade champions are determined.  In summary, we believe these adaptations will allow:

• More flexibility to accommodate members other running objectives.
• Allowance for longer term injuries that members may sustain.
• Greater accuracy in determination of our Champions.
• Increased levels of participation generally.
